Description

Manages accounting activities in accordance with Dealership policies, procedures, and requirements including the preparation of financial reports and summaries to support the business. Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel.

Ellens Equipment, Inc. is a family owned, agricultural, construction and landscaping equipment dealer. The company offers equipment repair services, parts and sales of several different types of equipment from a variety of manufacturers. Ellens Equipment has three locations in Michigan: McBain, Ithaca and Beal City.

Interaction and Reporting:

• Directly Responsible To: Office Manager and Management team
• Relationships With: Dealership Accountant, Personnel Manager, Parts Manager, Service Manager, General Manager, manufacturer’s representatives, advertising representatives

Key Tasks and Performance Objectives:

• Prepares various daily, monthly, quarterly or annual financial reports or statements
• Provides financial counseling and assistance to the senior management team including analysis and recommendations to enhance operations and results
• Manages all accounting activities to ensure that financial processes and information are accurate, timely, and contain adequate internal controls
• Coordinates and manages preparation of the budget and strategic plan including performing financial analysis and miscellaneous requests for information
• Reviews reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, reviews budgeted expenses against actual totals, and suggests methods of improving the budget planning process as appropriate
• Monitors dealership financial metrics
• Makes necessary corrections and/or adjustments to receive accurate report information
• Manages the preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, reports to stakeholders, tax returns, and reports for governmental regulatory agencies and
• Reconciles applicable accounts in the general ledger (Manufacturer statements, rentals, reserve accounts, etc.)
• Analyzes company operations to identify opportunities for reduction of expenses
• Manages cash flow and analyzes credit line requirements
• Manages recruiting, staffing and employee development activities for the Accounting Department

Other Duties:

• Any other duties as and when required by the General Manager that are reasonably within the capabilities of the person and are aimed at achieving the company’s advertising objectives and goals.

Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• 3+ years experience in financial management or accounting
• Understands financial concepts such as budgets, Return on Investment (ROI), Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), and Net Operating Return on Assets (NORA)
• Knowledge of financial principles required for budgeting and strategic planning
• Understands financial statements, cash flow, and key financial ratios
• Understands the integrated systems of internal control and the relationship to disclosure and financial reporting
• Proficient with accounting systems and in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Bachelors Degree in an Accounting/Finance/Business discipline or equivalent experience required. Masters Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration preferred
• CPA designation preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements: Body positions include sitting, standing, walking, turning head and bending torso, bending arms, wrists and fingers. Body senses needed are full use of eyes, ears, and full power of speech. The marketing manager position requires ability to do routine arithmetic calculations. The marketing manager position requires ability to communicate in English and to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Working Conditions: Work environment will be a climate controlled, smoke free store.

Mental Requirements: The Accounting Controller must maintain high staff morale in the company. Setting an example of teamwork is critical to this requirement.
